Agency History | The histories of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church are closely linked. Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church is a sister parish of Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church. Our Lady of Mercy parish began as a Station of Archbold in 1903. In 1915, the Catholics in Fayette, Ohio began attending nearby Catholic Churches instead of remaining a Station of Archbold. In 1943, the Mission at Fayette was established because the Catholic population in Fayette was growing. The Benedictine Fathers of St. Andrews Abbey in Cleveland took charge of the Mission. The Mission bought a hall and renovated it for services and pastor's living quarters. Our Lady of Mercy parish received their first resident pastor, Father Thomas E. Reynolds, in 1946. In this same year, the parish began serving the Mission of Our Lady of Fatima in Lyons, Ohio. When Father Reynolds left in 1948 the parish, along with the Mission of Lyons, became a Mission of St. Mary Catholic Church in Assumption. In 1952, the parish completed their church. This church is still in use today. In 1959, Our Lady of Mercy received another resident pastor and in that same year the parish again took charge of the Mission of Our Lady of Fatima.
