Introduction | The records of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church were transferred for microfilming to the Center for Archival Collections, Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, Ohio 43403, in March 2001, with the cooperation of Sr. Betty Glemboski of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church. The collection consists of baptisms * first communions, confirmations, marriages * and deaths. Due to inconsistencies in pagination and transcription of data, researchers are encouraged to refer to all volumes within each series. (See order of microfilming for a detailed list of these records.) Some records are in Latin. Ben Halili, a graduate student, prepared this register and collection in March, 2001. * There is a seventy (70) year access restriction on baptism and marriage records. No restrictions apply to the remainder of this collection. |
Agency History | Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, North Baltimore, Ohio started in 1891 as a station of Bowling Green, Ohio. In 1892, Father W. S. Kress saw the need to establish a church. He first rented an Opera House where mass was celebrated. Construction of a church began in July, 1892. It was completed in December of the same year. The church was called St. Augustine Church. Deshler, Hamler and Cygnet missions were later established. St. Augustine Church burned twice, first on October 18, 1929 and then on February 27, 1930. A second church was built on November 27, 1930 and renamed the Church of the Miraculous Medal of Our Blessed Lady. Deshler and Hamler missions were subsequently incorporated into the St. Louis Catholic Church, Custer, Ohio parish while the Cygnet mission remains a station of North Baltimore.
